About Us
Arts Council of Moore County
The Arts Council of Moore County was officially founded as a charitable, nonprofit organization in 1973. Since then, we have fulfilled our mission, “Inspire and Strengthen Our Community Through the Arts.” We do this through our many arts programs, support to individual artists & organizations, and other special partnerships.
Thousands of children have been profoundly impacted as a result of our youth programs. We serve over 15,000 children each year in every school – public, private, charter, & home schools. We have also awarded over $90,000 in scholarships to talented middle & high school students.
The Arts Council is the county leader of a thriving creative district, with our arts and cultural industries generating millions in local economic activity annually. We serve this economy in various ways, including showcasing thousands of artists, supporting arts organizations with grants, ticket sales, and promotions. We are also the North Carolina Arts Council’s Designated County Partner, receiving and distributing state funds in the form of Grassroots Grants.
The Arts Council’s home is the Campbell House located at 482 E. Connecticut Ave. in Southern Pines and owes its existence to the Boyd & Campbell families. Once part of the Weymouth estate, the natural setting is among the nation’s important historic landscapes, encompassing the world’s oldest longleaf pines. For more than 100 years, Campbell House has been a beacon of culture, informing, influencing, and enhancing civic life.
The Arts Council’s programs and future rely completely on community support. A gift to the Arts Council is the ultimate expression of faith in our mission of sustaining our community as a place resilient with the arts at its core.
