"OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE A TRUE COLLABORATIVE “SHAKESPERIENCE” — DEMYSTIFYING THE OFTEN INTIMIDATING LANGUAGE OF SHAKESPEARE BY APPLYING INNOVATIVE, FUN, AND DYNAMIC ACTING TECHNIQUES TO THE TEXT."

This program brings kids and their parent to BPAC on two successive Saturdays in assigned ‘safe zones’ at 20-feet distance from any other participants. On both Saturdays, students get a four-hour Shakespearean “experience-at-distance” with Dr. Drahos, known regionally for his “Shakespeare in the Pines” program.

At the end of the August 1 meeting, Dr. Drahos will distribute the “performance pieces” which students will then practice and present in individual Zoom/Collaborate sessions over the next six days. Each student will have a 50-minute session at assigned times, during which the student and the professor will polish a one-on-one performance piece.

Then, on August 8, students and parents will reconvene in BPAC to watch the students’ edited performances and hear Drahos’ critiques and tips on improving as a young actor. Ticket/Registration fee includes lunch on Saturday, August 8.

From Dr. Drahos: "I LOOK FORWARD TO THE CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO BRING THE MIRACULOUS LANGUAGE OF SHAKESPEARE TO LIFE."

A Note from BPAC Executive Director, Joe Brown

"We hope to achieve a sense of a true summer theater camp experience focused on student performance of Shakespeare’s best-known works while protecting youth from COVID risk. This program is the perfect segue into the SCC Theater Arts associate degree program and we want to make area kids aware of the pathways SCC can provide and begin to grow awareness of the options available to our young performers in the region."
