Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz burst onto the local music scene back in 1986 as a fundraiser for the Arts Council. The list of artists who have graced the Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz stage reads like a “who’s who” in the jazz world, with such artists as Shirley Horn, Ellis Marsalis, Freddie Cole, John Pizzarelli, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Our audiences have welcomed a movie star (Molly Ringwald), waited for an answer to a marriage proposal, and joined in a conga line. On February 8-9, 2024, the event returns to the tradition of presenting great jazz performances as a joint event by the Arts Council and Bradshaw Performing Arts Center.

The Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz weekend will begin on Thursday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. with a free concert by the Sandhills Community College Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Larry Arnold. The SCC Jazz Band is a traditional big band with 15+ volunteer musicians from Moore County and beyond. Since its beginnings, the group has had toes tapping and hands clapping.

On Friday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m., vocalist Jane Moneheit will headline with The Christian Tamburr Trio. Jane is a jazz vocalist with a deep passion for the Great American Songbook. With many highly acclaimed solo albums, countless awards and accolades, and over two decades of international touring experience, she has not only been an extremely successful bandleader, but has had the privilege of making music with some of the greatest musicians, arrangers, and producers in jazz.
