Hank, Pattie, and the Current

Progressive bluegrass from Raleigh, NC. In the spirit of Nickel Creek, The Punch Brothers, and Infamous Stringdusters, this band is quickly moving up the bluegrass scene. They’ve recently been chosen to be a main showcase band for this year’s IBMA convention.

Website: http://www.hankandpattie.com/

Two of North Carolina’s veteran bluegrass musicians join forces with some of the Triangle area’s most versatile musicians to create modern, American, acoustic music featuring the full range of their talents as composers and arrangers. The band is on tour regionally and nationally in 2016 in support of their new, self titled album on Robust Records.

The band, along with their Symphony String Section, makes use of traditional bluegrass instrumentation in a nontraditional way to present original music to the listener that goes beyond the limits of the idiom. The arrangements take on a new level of maturation that follows in the footsteps of Bela Fleck, Mark O'Connor, Chris Thile, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer, and Tony Rice. Hank, Pattie & The Current want to pick up where seminal crossover groups like The Punch Brothers, Strength In Numbers and the ever changing Bluegrass Allstars call home. The music is vocal and instrumental, allowing the band to experiment with arrangements and tailor the compositions to become vehicles for exploration. Hank Smith plays banjo, Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw plays fiddle and sings. The band is rounded out with Ben Parker on guitar on vocals, Robert Thornhill on mandolin and vocals and E. Scott Warren on bass.

Opening this show will be Aaron Burdett! Aaron is an acclaimed Americana/Bluegrass singer-songwriter and performer from Western North Carolina, and is listed as one of the most important western NC musicians by WNC Magazine. He's won awards in multiple songwriting competitions hosted by the likes of Merlefest, Mountain Stage, the NC Songwriter’s Co-op, and Our State Magazine. His last four albums have been voted top 20 Albums of the Year by WNCW radio listeners.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Opener, Aaron Burdett will begin at 6:30 p.m. Blankets and folding chairs are allowed and encouraged. No coolers or outside food. Refreshments will be available for purchase. R&D Brewing Co. will be on-site along with Mas-a-Wrap food truck.
