Alex Albright Creative Nonfiction Prize Contest Celebration with NC Literary Review

Join us to celebrate two of the winners of the Alex Albright Creative Nonfiction Prize Contest with the North Carolina Literary Review!

Ashlen Renner is a journalist based in northern Virginia. She earned her MFA from George Mason University. She has published in New Ohio Review and Feels Blind Lit, and she was a finalist for the 2023 Albright Prize contest. She is also a former employee of The Country Bookshop.

Stephanie Elizondo Griest is a creative nonfiction writer from the Texas-Mexico borderlands. Her six books document her travels to more than 50 countries and have won multiple awards, including a Margolis Award for Social Justice Reporting. She has performed in capacities ranging from a Moth storyteller to a literary ambassador for the U.S. State Department. She is a Professor of Creative Nonfiction at UNC CH.

The North Carolina Literary Review (NCLR), produced at East Carolina University, publishes interviews and literary criticism about North Carolina writers and high-quality poetry, fiction, drama, and creative nonfiction by North Carolina writers or set in North Carolina. Our definition of a North Carolina writer is anyone who currently lives in North Carolina, has lived in North Carolina, or uses North Carolina as subject matter.

A cross between a scholarly journal and a literary magazine, NCLR has won numerous awards and citations, including six from the Council of Editors of Learned Journals: the Best New Journal award in 1994, the Best Journal Design award in 1999 and 2010, the Parnassus Award for Significant Editorial Achievement in 2007, the Phoenix Award for Significant Editorial Achievement in 2014, and Best Public Intellectual Special Issue in 2023.
